News and Observer Rock Climbing and Business Article

One of my biggest goals is to help people see how rock climbing not only is a fun activity, but that it also applies to all areas of life. You can imagine how delighted I was this morning to wake up and see this article on NewsObserver.com, the website of Raleigh NC’s leading newspaper:

If There’s a Mountain, Climb It

I strive to blend these two worlds together in everything I do and with all the businesses I work with. I have really grown to have a great passion for connecting climbing and outdoor experiences with business success and growth. Some of the concepts that I have been able to help others apply are those mentioned above, as well as trusting the tools you have for the job, learning how to manage stress, learning how to conquer unhealthy fears, and talking to oneself instead of listening to oneself.

It’s great to see others, especially in the Raleigh NC area, who share the same outlook that I do. Hopefully others read this article too and see the powerful impact that rock climbing can have on business.

  1. Climbing can be used as a tool, aid, technique for helping with the process of building several things – confidence, a business, team, etc. It can also just be a fun workout and recreational outlet, it doesn’t necessarily have to have a heavy motivational and self empowering aspect to it. Not to deny its place and proven worth as a motivator as the N&O article demonstrated, but many people just want to have fun climbing, biking, or whatever, and that is enough for them. To me the article was good because climbing gets very little public exposure, so any coverage is good coverage, but it seemed to stress the “tool” aspects of climbing over its recreational and friendship qualities. So also to me, climbing is fun first and foremost.

I agree that first and foremost climbing is an incredible recreational and social activity too. That’s my favorite thing about it by far. It’s just also pretty cool how it applies to so many other things as well. But of course, I want people to love climbing for climbing’s sake too!
