Rock Climbing Guide Training Program
On an almost daily basis, Ascent Adventure Consultants interacts with people who have a desire to become professional rock, ice, alpine, and/or mountaineering guides, yet they don’t know where to start, and don’t know how to get the experience necessary to become a professional guide.
We understand the desire and passion people have for leading others into the wilderness and leading others on climbs, therefore we have designed a rock climbing guide training program to help aspiring guides reach their goals and reach their full potential.

Program Summary
Our Rock Climbing Guide Program is a 4-6 month program, custom designed to help each aspiring guide accomplish their goals, develop skills in the areas they desire to grow in, and ultimately to help them become a rock climbing guide. We recognize that one of the major setbacks to taking certification classes with the larger certification companies is that the programs are not customized to each individual, which can lead to missed information, and undeveloped skill. One of the most exciting things about the program is that in can be conducted in an area of your choice. Read below for more details about the customization available for you.
We also realize that the entire course may not be for you. Maybe you are looking to spend only one day learning a certain skill. We would recommend that you look at the “Climbing Classes” link in our main menu, and contract one of our guides for a private instruction class of your choice.
Course Outline and Agenda
Every climber has different strengths and weaknesses, as well as having different goals in mind for their future. That is why we customize every Rock Climbing Guide Program to each person’s needs.
You have the option of choosing the track you wish to travel on. Whether you are a gym climber looking to learn just enough to take people outdoors, or you are looking to learn how to guide people up large multi pitch climbs, or you are looking to become an alpine/ice climbing and/or mountaineering guide, we will design a program just right for you.
The basic program structure is as follows:
-
You meet with one of our professional rock climbing guides and spend day one climbing and discussing your goals with them. Throughout the day, your skills are assessed in order for the guide to gain a good understanding of your level of experience and knowledge.
-
Following the first day, you and your guide will spend time outlining a program designed to help you work on the areas you wish to and need to grow in. You will then schedule additional days and locations for the program.
-
An example would be as follows: After day 1, let’s say you decide along with the guide that you need to work on anchor building, trad climbing gear placement, rescue technique, and route selection. You would then set up a series of trips and classes that allow you to work on those things. Maybe a day would be spent climbing easier multipitch climbs with more complicated traditional/natural anchor construction, and then a day working on rescue scenarios, for example.
-
The amount of days and classes vary depending on the goals being worked towards.
-
Following the completion of all scheduled days, you will be able to work with Ascent Adventure Consultants and assist in guiding 2 climbing trips, so that you can put your newly acquired skills into practice.
-
As an additional option to the program, you can add on an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification Class, or Rock Instructor Certification Class, as well as a Wilderness First Aid Certification Class.
Pricing Information
Pricing can vary depending on the length of the program, location of the program, and optional add ons to the program. Here is a base price structure to help give you a general idea of the pricing.
