Working Through Problems (In Life and in Climbing)
June 2nd, 2010 | Posted by: brandonWell…at Ascent Adventure Consultants over the past few weeks we have experienced a HUGE setback, in that our website went down. But now thanks to our designers, The Infantree (www.theinfantree.com), we are back in full swing. As I was sitting here this morning thinking about what to write to alert everyone that the site is back, I was thinking how climbing has prepared me to handle situations like this.
Climbing has taught me:
Prioritizing Life, Prioritizing Climbing
May 2nd, 2010 | Posted by: brandonDo you ever feel like your life is a mix of tasks to get done, and you just jump back and forth between tasks all day, feeling like you never get ahead? Maybe you wake up in the morning and have an idea of what needs to get done for work that day, but as soon as you sit down to start your day, you are overwhelmed by the myriad of thongs to do. Moira Ringo’s Kilimanjaro Trip Log: Day 1 (Moshi, TZ)
February 27th, 2010 | Posted by: brandonI am awakened at 4:30 am by the call to prayer from a nearby mosque, followed by rooster crowing from the chicken farm next to the hotel. The Lutherans fire up their tribute to the divine at 9 am in some of the loudest and most enthusiastic church singing I have ever heard. Read the rest of this entry »
Pole Pole: The Mantra of Kilimanjaro
February 20th, 2010 | Posted by: brandonOne of the things that we heard over and over again on Kilimanjaro was the porters and guides saying “Pole Pole” (pronounced pole-ay pole-ay). The translation is “GO SLOWLY.” Not only was this applicable on the mountain, but in the rest of the Tanzanians lives. Read the rest of this entry »

Why I Love Climbing
September 21st, 2009 | Posted by: brandonThis week someone asked me why I love to climb. They didn’t understand what was so appealing about it. So I’ve been thinking all week about that question and keep coming up with more and more reasons why I love to climb. So I thought I’d list a few here. I’d love if you would add to this list in the comment section!
The Adrenaline Rush
One of the things I seek out in life is new, exciting experiences. Every time I climb, I get that feeling that I am doing something new and exciting and I love the adrenaline rush it gives me as I move up the cliff. I have learned to turn fear into excitement!
The Challenge
I’m always looking for new challenges, and with climbing, there is a limitless lifetime of challenges awaiting me.
Leaders Travel Unexplored Paths
August 20th, 2009 | Posted by: brandonI found a new blog that I love to read….it’s called The Practice of Leadership. I read an article today on The Importance of Creativity for leaders. Make sure to read the article in full. I wanted to highlight one of the points the author makes.

A Great Day at Stone Mountain NC
July 7th, 2009 | Posted by: brandonI just wanted to let you know that my day at Stone Mountain was pretty freaking awesome. Daniel did a great job of choosing the route to suit my goals AND the weather (the rock was still a little damp in sections, which worked fine on The Great Arch!). He was also extremely pleasant as well as totally safety-conscious, so it was a really nice, chill day outside in beautiful weather. If anyone ever asks me, I will definitely recommend you guys, and I’m looking forward to future trips with you!
