Smith Rocks, Oregon- Rock Climbing
March 19th, 2009 | Posted by: brandonSmith Rocks is one of the most beautiful and unique climbing areas in the country. Boasting over 1500 climbing routes, the cliffs tower at over 550 high over the Oregon high desert plateau, which is at approximately 3300 feet above sea level. Climbers from all over the world travel here for the opportunity to climb on the cliffs, which are composed of welded tuft from ancient volcanoes. Whether you are a new climber, or an experienced climber looking to broaden your horizons, this is the trip for you!
Travel Arrangements:
All participants should book a flight to the Portland Oregon airport (PDX). The price of a plane ticket, as of October 2008, is between $250 and $350 dollars. As always, the sooner the ticket is purchased, the more affordable it will be. We will meet up as a group at a time TBD (based on arrival times). We will then travel to Smith Rocks together after picking up a rental car. The drive from Portland to Smith Rocks is approximately 3 hours.
We will be camping at Smith Rocks State Park, across the river from the cliffs.
All equipment is provided, and no experience is necessary!
